Automation Engineer

Build automation that powers the heart of our customers’ most critical operations

At Schuberg Philis, we specialize in mission‑critical IT, partnering closely with our customers to keep their most essential systems running smoothly and securely with 100% responsibility. Our impact is driven by engineers who are deeply technical, automate everything, collaborate naturally, stay curious, take full end‑to‑end ownership, and understand the full stack - from application to core infrastructure.

We’re looking for engineers who flourish in automation‑first, mission‑critical environments and want to shape the platforms our customers rely on daily. In a self‑steering customer team, you design, build, run, and improve business‑critical systems across the full stack. You automate everything you touch, streamline pipelines, solve issues across the stack, and tune applications for performance. Working in a culture of real ownership, deep collaboration, and zero silos, where teams carry full responsibility for mission‑critical systems.

/ What you will do

As a Mission‑Critical Automation Engineer, you design, build, run, and improve platforms. You automate everything you touch, diagnose and resolve issues across the entire stack, collaborate closely with customer teams, and take full end‑to‑end ownership of stability, security, and performance.

Your day-to-day includes:

• Building automation through scripting and configuration management tooling.
• Owning the full Plan–Build–Run lifecycle.
• Solving multi‑layer issues across OS, network, DB, security, and apps.
• Designing and executing controlled releases with Git and pipelines.
• Platform‑hardening practices.

/ What you bring

• A strong automation mindset, with hands-on experience in advanced scripting and configuration management (e.g. Powershell, Ansible, DSC, Puppet, Chef).
• Hands-on experience with Git and CI/CD practices.
• Experience applying security principles in mission-critical environments.
• Proficient in Infrastructure-as-Code tooling such as Terraform, Bicep, or ARM.
• An ownership mentality, combined with curiosity and analytical thinking to understand and improve system behaviour end-to-end.
• Understanding of networking, database fundamentals, release/deployment lifecycles, and applications.

The following would be a plus:

• Building and running containerized environments (Docker).
• Orchestrating platforms using Kubernetes.
• Operating in public or private cloud environments (Azure, AWS, or similar).

/ Who are you?

• An engineer with strong specialization in a core technical domain, combined with a solid understanding of the broader system landscape.
• Automation-driven, preferring code over manual work.
• A pragmatic problem solver who collaborates openly.
• A self-starter who thrives in a high-trust engineering culture.
• Motivated by complex systems, customer impact, and continuous improvement.

/ What can you expect?

• Collaborate with highly skilled engineers who focus on automation, security, and delivering real customer impact. We prioritize quality and ownership over billable hours (“freedom & responsibility”).
• A culture that supports continuous growth through training, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.
• High-quality offices, strong tech community involvement, and opportunities to experiment with new technologies.
