Backend Software Engineer (m/f/d) E-commerce Tech, AI-first & Rust Curious

Since 2018, we’ve become one of Google’s largest CSS Premium Partners, powering Shopping ads for 1,000+ customers across 20,000+ Merchant Centres in Europe.

Fully self-funded, profitable and still expanding, we’re a strong and supportive team with a stable foundation. Now we’re looking for a new colleague who wants to be part of it for the long run: an engineer who gets a goal rather than a ticket, builds with AI as a natural part of the job, and takes ownership from idea to production.

Why adstrong

• 100% remote: work from anywhere in the EU, with flexible hours and no weekend or night work.

• No process chaos: documentation and procedures are well-structured and digital.

• No politics: we encourage proactive decisions and make ours within 24 hours.

• Stable and growing: a fully self-funded, fast-growing company with no external investors.

• Small, skilled team: a hands-on tech team of around 6 people.

• Great working culture: supportive colleagues who help each other and share knowledge openly.

• AI-first: coding agents are how we build, and your judgement is what matters.

• Attractive compensation: plus all the equipment you need.

• Missing anything? Mention it in your application, and we’ll see if we can make it happen.

What you will do

• Build AI-first: plan with AI, drive coding agents and review their output with a critical eye.

• Get a goal, not a ticket: work directly with colleagues on the business side to gather requirements, align on the solution and build it into working software.

• Make sound architecture and data-model decisions, keeping our systems fast and reliable as we scale.

• Take ownership of existing applications and build new solutions for our affiliate business.

• Design and develop event-driven backend systems that handle large volumes of product and campaign data, mostly in Rust and partly in Python.

• Own your topics end to end and keep the team and stakeholders in the loop along the way.

What you bring

• Experience contributing to a strong engineering culture, e.g. through code reviews, knowledge sharing, or improving team tools and ways of working.

• Daily hands-on work with coding agents: you plan with AI, delegate the implementation and know how to review what comes back, including more complex workflows like one model writing code while another reviews it.

• Strong architectural awareness: you know which components and infrastructure to use for which problem, and how to structure what you build.

• Rust experience, or curiosity about it and readiness to make it your main language, as most of our backend is written in it. C or C++ experience is a strong alternative.

• Experience solving problems close to ours, ideally in e-commerce, affiliate marketing, Google Shopping, Google Ads or other data-heavy web platforms. Our business team will help you build the domain knowledge.

• Experience with event-driven systems (e.g. Kafka, AWS SQS/SNS or similar)

• A solid grasp of the full engineering process: requirements, design, trade-offs, testing and maintainability

• Mid- or senior-level experience. We care more about how you think and work than about years on paper. Our business team will help you build the domain knowledge.

• A Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.

• Business-fluent English (C1).

Our stack: Rust and some Python on the backend, TypeScript / Next.js on the frontend (handled by our frontend engineers, so it’s optional for you), plus AWS, SQL databases, Elasticsearch and GitLab. Familiarity with any of these is an advantage, but it’s not a checklist you need to match.

How you work

• You communicate clearly and proactively. You’re comfortable talking to business colleagues, ask the right questions early, share progress without being asked and explain technical trade-offs in plain language.

• You value good engineering culture. We improve as a team, so honest feedback matters to us, and so do your ideas for improving our team culture, tools and the way we work in IT.

• You organize yourself. Give you a goal, and you’ll plan the work, set priorities and follow through, without needing a detailed ticket for every step.

• You’re genuinely curious. You enjoy digging into new topics, including the business side, and you keep learning as tools and AI evolve.

• You take ownership. You care about the outcome, not just the code, and you drive your topics forward instead of waiting for direction.

If you match most of these points and want to help shape the technology behind one of Europe’s leading CSS providers, we’d love to hear from you. There’s no classic coding test in our process. Instead, we’ll talk through a realistic goal together and see how you approach it with AI.
